Description
Bronze heritage sign on the exterior of Saint Johnââ¬â¢s Church in Bolzano, Italy. Since this church is located in the province of Alto Adige where both German and Italian are spoken, the commemorative plaque is in both languages. The oldest church in the city, it was consecrated in 1180. In German, the church is St. Johann im Dorf; the Italian name is San Giovanni in Villa. The small Romansque church or chiesa, is built of stone and contains a single nave and a barrel vault ceiling decorated with frescoes depicting biblical stories. The apse was painted in 1330 to 1335, and the ceiling and nave frescoed in 1365. The interior is only open to visitors on a very limited basis.
